Safari Overview

The safari package will enable you to explore two of the major southern national parks in Tanzania of Nyerere/Selous and Mikumi national parks in very convenient time.

Nyerere national park, previously Selous game reserve is Tanzania’s largest national park. With its wildlife diversity and undisturbed nature, Nyerere national park is a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. However, Mikumi national park has a great variety of animals like the ‘Big Five’ and a wide chance that you will encounter lions climbing up trees.

Safari Itinerary

DAY 1:

Dar es Salaam – Selous/Nyerere National Park

After early breakfast your drive will pick you up at your hotel and drive, 3-4 hours to Nyerere/Selous national park to do your afternoon game drive till late hours, then have one hour drive back to Udzungwa for Dinner and overnight at your booked accommodation property.

Nyerere national park is one of the largest national park in the world with a large number of wildlife such as Antelope, Greater Kudu, Eland, Bush Back, Plain Zebra, Wildebeest, Masai Giraffe, Black Rhino, Cape Buffalo, Hippopotamus, African Bush Elephant, Leopard, Lion, Wild Dogs and Nile Crocodile

Nyerere national park is quieter than in the other parks, so you can enjoy a unique and undisturbed safari experience. The Rufiji river that ends in the Indian Ocean, crosses the entire reserve. The Stiegler Gorge of 100 metres deep and 100 metres wide is a special attraction here. Nyerere national park is also one of the few national parks where you can go on walking safari with an armed ranger.

DAY 2:

Mikumi National Park – Dar es Salaam:

After breakfast one hour to Mikumi national park to have a half day game in the park, and then drive back to Dar es Salaam.

Mikumi’s open horizons and abundant wildlife draws frequent comparisons to the famous Serengeti plains. The park has a great variety of animals and most visitors come to Mikumi national park aiming to spot the ‘Big Five’ – cheetah, lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino. The chance that you will encounter lions climbing trees here is greater than in other parks!
